After a sedition case was filed against filmmaker Aisha Sultana by the Lakshadweep Police, a number of BJP leaders in the UT, led by General Secretary Abdul Hameed Mullipuzha, have submitted their resignation from the party.

Sultana was booked by the Lakshadweep Police on sedition charges following a complaint by BJP'S Lakshadweep unit president Abdul Khader. He had claimed that Sultana had spread false news about the spread of COVID-19 in the UT during a TV debate.

The tensions between the UT and it's administrator Praful Patel were further fueled by her comments.

"Lakshadweep had 0 cases of COVID-19. Now it is reporting a daily spike of 100. What the centre has deployed is a bio-weapon. I can say this clearly that the central government has deployed bio-weapon" said Sultana on TV.

Angered by the action taken by the president, the party leaders in a letter said that they have been protesting against the "undemocratic actions" of UT administrator Praful Patel, "you filed a false and unjustified complaint" against Sultana.

The letter further stated that the actions taken by Patel are "anti-people, anti-democracy" and are "causing extreme suffering among poeple."
