Google issues apology after search result shows Kannada as "ugliest language in India"

On Thursday search engine Google found itself in the middle of controversy and faced lots of criticism from the state of Karnataka and Kannada speakers when the search result of "ugliest language" in India returned as "Kannada".

A Google query on "ugliest language in India" showed Kannada as the answer. Screenshots of this later went viral on social media.

Following this huge heat, Google would soon remove that result and issue an apology.

  • "Search isn't always perfect. Sometimes the way content is described on the Internet can yield surprising results to specific queries. We know this is not ideal, but we take swift corrective action when we are made aware of an issue and continually working to improve our algorithms. Naturally, these are not reflective of the opinions of Google, and we apologize for the misunderstanding and hurting any sentiments" said a Google Spokesperson.
