Finland players refusing to celebrate

An historic day in Finland's footballing history was largely overshadowed by the dangerous sudden collapse of Denmark Star Christian Eriksen. After receiving CPR on the pitch, Eriksen was later taken to a nearby hospital were he was declared stable. The game was suspended for over 100 minutes before the UEFA announced that both teams had agreed to restart the play.

Clearly deflated by what had happened, The game's only goal game in the 59th minute when Joel Pohjanpalo got between two defenders and headed in a cross which went pass Kasper Schmeichel. There were no celebration out of respect from the Finnish players.

That however was not the only highlight of the game. Denmark had a chance to level it up from the penalty spot in the 74th minute after Yussuf Polusen was brought down in the box. Pierre-Emile Højbjerg's attempt from 12 yards was saved by Lukas Hradecky as he became just the third keeper to save a penalty on their debut appearance in the Euros.

Group B' other fixture saw No.1 ranked team in the world Belgium cruise pass Russia by a 3-0 scorelines. Despite missing key players in the form of Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bruyne, it was all to easy for Belgium as two goals from Romelu Lukaku either side of a Thomas Meunier's attempt saw them run riot.

Whereas in the earlier Group A fixture, spoils were shared in an entertaining 1-1 draw between Wales and Switzerland. The Swiss dominated the game from the start but Wales had their moments in front of goal.

Switzerland took a deserving lead in the 49th minute as Breel Embolo headed in a corner from Xherdan Shaqiri into the bottom left corner. They had few more opportunities to capatilize but were unable to do so and were made to pay for it.

Wales levelled it up in the 74th minute as Keiffer Moore headed in a cross from the right by Joe Morrell. Switzerland then had a goal disallowed by VAR in the 86th minute as substitute Mario Gavranovic was denied an instant impact for offside.

Today England host 2018 World Cup Runners-Up Croatia at Wembley. Austria then face competition debutants North Macedonia before Netherlands and Ukraine call the day off.
