Huge protests held in Navi Mumbai over the naming of upcoming airport

Thousands of protestors can be seen breaking COVID-19 norms

On Thursday 24th June, thousands of people including Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) workers staged massive protests across Navi Mumbai over the naming of the upcoming international airport in the city.

The Maharashtra Government and the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO) had earlier announced that the new airport will be named after Shiv Sena founder late BalaSaheb Thackeray.

However the locals have demanded that the airport should be named after Late DB Patil, a leader from this region who always fought for the rights of the locals. He was also the senior leader of the peasants and Workers Party of India.

To detest the government, opposition party BJP also joined the protest. To avoid problems, vehicle movement on Kalamboli and Vashi highway has been restricted. Around 5000 Police personnel including 500 Police officers from Thane and Mumbai have been deployed across Navi Mumbai. Seven teams of state reserve police have also been deployed to control the crowd.
