Argentina 1-0 Brazil; Lionel Messi's wait for International honour comes to end as Argentina win Copa America 2021

On Saturday night Argentina beat their arch rivals Brazil 1-0 in their own backyard in the 2021 Copa America Final to end a 28 year long wait for a major piece of silverware. The win also become special as Superstar Lionel Messi finally won a major international honour with the Argentina.

In recent years, the La Albiceleste had suffered huge heartbreaks in the form of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, 2015 and 2016 Copa America. The Tournament originally scheduled to be hosted in Argentina was later shifted to Brazil due to COVID-19.

The winning goal came in the 22nd mistake as Angel Di Maria wrote his name in the Argentine history. The PSG winger made most of a defensive mistake at the back. Rodrigo De Paul laid out a sensational long ball over the top of the defence. Renan Lodi completely failed to make a intersection with an outstretched boot. Di Maria latched on it, took a good first touch and then chipped it over the Ederson into the back of the net.

Lionel Messi won the Best Player of the Tournament Award as well for his Four Goals and Five Assist as he also won the Top Goalscorer Award.

Argentina will now celebrate their 15th Copa America title with a joy as their next game comes in September as World Cup Qualifications resumes. It was another heartbeat for Brazil in their home country. They are next in action against Chile.
