On Thursday, the Bombay High Court upheld the conviction of criminal, Abdul Rauf Merchant for the murder of T-Series founder Gulshan Kumar. Abdul Rauf, an aide of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2002.
Gulshan Kumar was shot dead on August 12,1997 while coming out of a temple in Mumbai. According to the prosecution, his industry rivals had paid money to Dubai-based Gangster Abu Salem to kill him. However during the trial, the court only convicted Rauf and acquitted others.
Rauf was granted parole in 2009 by the Bombay High Court. He then fled India and entered Bangladesh where he was arrested after he failed to prove any valid documents and was given a five year prison term. In 2014, he was handed over to the Indian Authorities by the Bangladeshi government.
The Court has also dismissed an appeal by the state government against the acquittal of Ramesh Taurani of Tips Industries.
