Former Indian Cricketer and 1983 World Cup Winner Yashpal Sharma passes away

 

Former Indian Cricketer and 1983 World Cup Winner Yashpal Sharma passed away today at the age of 66. The Former Indian batsmen reportedly passed away at 7.40 am on Tuesday due to heart attack. He is survived by his wife Renu Sharma and three children.

The Ludhiana born talisman enjoyed a glittering career spanning over the late 70s and 80s. Sharma played a major role in India's 1983 World Cup triumph.

He contributed a match-winning memorable knock of 89 against the great West Indies team their first defeat at the major stage. Sharma wasn't done there as he played a crucial knock of 61 against England in the Semi Final.

He played 37 tests for India scoring 1606 runs with two centuries and nine half centuries at an average of 33.45. Post Retirement he was involved in many roles with the BCCI including being an umpire and selector.
