Sunday Special: The Glorious 2006 Aamir Khan starrer "Rang De Basanti"

 

In this week's edition of Sunday Special we present you the evergreen movie Rang De Basanti (Paint it Saffron). Released on 26th January,2006, the movie esembles a cast of Aamir Khan, Siddharth, Atul Kulkarni, Soha Ali Khan, Sharman Joshi and British actress Alice Patten.

Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Rang De Basanti follows a British Film Student Sue McKinley (Alice Patten) to India to document the story of five freedom fighters of the Indian Revolutionary Movement. She befriends five young men for the film which inspires them to fight against their own corrupted government.

Upon it's release, the film broke all opening box office records in India. It became the highest grossing film in it's opening weekend. It was chosen as India's offical entry for the Golden Globe Awards at the Academy Awards and won the Filmfare Awards for the Best Movie in India.

                              Brief Synopsis:-

British Film Student, Sue McKinley (Alice Patten) finds a diary of her grandfather James, who had served as a Colonel during the British Raj in the 1930s. He had overseen, the capture and execution of five Indian Freedom Fighters, Chandrasekhar Azad, Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, Ram Prasad Bismil and Ashfaqualla Khan.

Inspired by their story, Sue decided to make a documentary and travels to India and meets her friend Sonia's friends Daljit "DJ" (Aamir Khan), Karan (Siddharth), Sukhi (Sharman Joshi) and Aslam (Kunal Kapoor) decides to cast them.

The film then follows the Revolutionary fight of the four along with Laxman Pandey (Atul Kulkarni) to expose the truth of their government. The story ends on an emotional note leaving tears in the eyes while creating a strong public opinion.
