TMC MP Shantanu Sen suspended for the remainder of Monsoon Session

On Friday, Trinamool Congress (TMC) Rajya Sabha MP Shantanu Sen was suspended for the remainder of the Monsoon Session of Parliament for his actions yesterday.

A motion was passed by a voice note and Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu asked him to leave the house.

During the session yesterday, Sen allegedly got up and snatched a report on Pegasus Spyware from the hands of IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, tore them and flunged them at Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh.

"Unfortunately, proceedings of the House reached a new low with papers being snatched from the Minister and torn into pieces. Such actions are a clear assualt on our Parliamentary democracy. Shantanu Sen, please withdraw from the House. Allow the House to function" said Naidu.

Opposition parties protested against this move and said they were not given any opportunity to respond. TMC members even claimed that Sen was roughed up after the House was adjourned.

In this response, Chairman Naidu said that the issue was not brought to his notice.
