The extremist Islamic State (IS) group has claimed responsibility for a series of bomb attacks in Afghanistan which targeted the Taliban. The terror groups Aamaq News Agency said it on it's Telegram channel.
"More than 35 Taliban militia members were killed or wounded in a series of explosions that took place (On Saturday and Sunday)" Al Arabiya reported while citing the agency as saying.
A deputy of Taliban official Zabihullah Mujahid, confirmed to Afghan news outlet TOLO News on Sunday that explosions were targeted at Taliban vehicles in Jalalabad city, the provincial centre of Nangarhar.
- As per TOLO News, the blast in Kabul on Saturday wounded two people and explosions in Nangarhar wounded approximately 20 people.
Three explosions were heard in Jalalabad on Saturday. Three injured in the blast were civilians while the rest of them were Taliban fighters, some of whom are in critical condition.
After taking over the country in August, the Taliban are now facing major economic and security problems as they attempt to govern the land. An accelerated campaign of IS attacks is likely to increase problems in the future.
