On Friday, Maharashtra Director General of Police (DGP) Sanjay Pandey announced that the police force will now implement eight-hour shifts for women personnel. While this has already been implemented in some places, Pandey said such shifts will soon be made the norm across the state in phased manner.
"We have implemented eight-hours shift for all the women police personnel in the state. It has been reduced from twelve-hour shift" Pandey told ANI.
According to an official, several women constables had approached the state police chief and pointed out that their duty hours often get extended well beyond their stipulated twelve hours which affected their family life.
Another official said that the eight-hour shifts have already been successfully implemented for women police personnel in Nagpur, Pune, Amravati and most recently in Navi Mumbai.
