On Wednesday, The Centre Government informed the Supreme Court that it has decided that women, too, can now join the National Defence Academy (NDA) based in Pune.
Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati, appearing for the Centre, told the bench that a decision has been taken at the highest level of armed forces and government.
"There is a piece of good news. A decision has been taken at the highest level of forces and government that women will be inducted for Permanent Commission through the National Defence Academy. The decision was taken late evening yesterday" submitted ASG Bhati.
The court was hearing the plea seeking to allow women to take part in the NDA exams.
Earlier, in an interim, the Supreme Court had allowed women to take part in the NDA exam which was scheduled for September 5 and has also slammed the Indian Army for the decisions that are based on 'gender discrimination'.
- According to ASG Bhati, women will be admitted to the NDA and informed the Bench that the exam has been postponed till November 24th, 2021.
