5 Army soldiers martyred in encounter in J&K's Poonch

On Monday during a fierce encounter between the security forces and heavily armed terrorists in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and four jawans lost their lives.

As per official reports, the Army personnel were critically injured in a gunfight with terrorists in villages close to Dara Ki Gali (DKG) in Surankote area of Poonch district and succumbed to their injuries later at a medical facility.

The encounter is said to have started in the morning following intelligence inputs. The security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the area where reports suggested that three to four terrorists were hiding.

"In ensuing firefight during the ongoing encounter with terrorists, a JCO and four soldiers of Indian Army suffered critical injuries. The critically injured were evacuated to the nearest medical facility but they succumbed to their injuries" said army spokesperson Lt Col Devender Anand.
