Govt to give Rs 45 Lakhs and Job to families of the deceased farmers killed in Lakhimpur Kheri

Talks between the administration and protesting farmers, led by Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait ended on "positive terms" on Monday as protest continued over several parts of India over the deaths of atleast 8 people including 4 protesting farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday.

As per the agreement reached, the government will offer Rs 45 Lakh and a job to families of the four deceased farmers, while the injured will receive an aid of Rs 10 Lakh each. The farmers have now allowed the adminstration to go ahead with the final rites of the deceased after refusing to hand over the bodied to them earlier.

Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said that the First Information Report (FIR) will be registered on the farmers' complaint.

As per reports, a retired high court judge is said to investigative the violence.

  • On Sunday, a convoy of three SUVs including one owned by Union Minister of State for Home, Ajay Mishra, hitted a group of protesting farmers.

Following the incident, the farm leaders had called for the arrest of the Minister and his son who was claimed to be driving one of the SUVs.

The Opposition party had slammed the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) state government for his cruel incident and had called for the resignation of UP CM Yogi Adityanath.

Meanwhile Yogi Adityanath expressed his sorrow over the incident and promised that the UP Government will go to the bottom of this incident and take strict actions against the culprits.
