On Sunday, the Centre Government brought in a ordinance to extend the tenure of Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) directors upto 5 years.
So far, the directors of the two mentioned investigating agencies are appointed for a fixed period of two years. While they cannot be removed from their position before the tenure ends, extensions can be given upto to another year by the government.

The current directors of CBI and ED are Subodh Kumar Jaiswal and Sanjay Kumar Mishra respectively.
