On Sunday, in the latest chapter of the Trans-Tasman rivalry, Australia defeated New Zealand by 8 wickets to win the seventh edition of the ICC T20 World Cup.
Australia won the toss and elected to field first as they invited New Zealand to put up the runs on the scoreboard. Despite a slow start, the Kiwis managed to notch up a fighting total of 172/4 in 20 overs thanks to a well played Captain's knock from Kane Williamson. The Kiwis' skipper scored a brilliant 85 from 48 balls with 10 fours and 3 sixes.
- This was so far the highest score managed by a team in the first innings of a T20 World Cup Final.
Despite losing their captain Aaron Finch early, Australia kept their calm. A 92 run second wicket partnership between David Warner and Mitchell Marsh setted up the tone for a relative easy win.
An unbeaten 77 run knock off 50 balls from Mitchell Marsh ensured Australia crusied past the target within 18.5 overs. The winning hit came from Glenn Maxwell.
