New Covid Variant: PM Modi asks officials to review plans for easing International travel restrictions

 

In the view of the new COVID-19 Variant which was later named Omicron, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday asked officials to review plans for easing International travel restrictions.

As per a release by the PMO, PM Modi has highlighted the need for monitoring all international travels, their testing as per guidelines with a specific focus on countries identified "at risk". 

The Prime Minister has also directed officials to work closely with state governments to ensure that there is proper awareness at state and district level.

Omicron, which was first detected in South Africa has raised concerns all over the world. As per health officials, this variant is said to have atleast 32 mutations.

Alertness has been increased at state international airports across the country.

Countries like South Africa, Brazil, Bangladesh, Botswana, China, Mauritius, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Singapore, Israel, Hong Kong, UK and several other countries in Europe have been added in the list by India who will need to follow additional measures upon their arrival in the country.
