As per reports from The Indian Express, a 27-year-old man was arrested on Sunday by the Agripada police for allegedly marrying a 15-year-old girl and subsequently raping her multiple times.
The police have stated that the mother of the girl, the parents of the girl's "husband" along with the cleric who solemnised the marriage, have been booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 and Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006.
According to the Police, the marriage took place in the central suburbs in January, but the incident came to light on Friday, when the 15-year-old delivered a baby girl at the JJ Hospital. When the doctors asked for the mother's age, her husband and in-laws said she was 20 years old. When the doctors asked for the Aadhaar Card of the mother for the birth certificate of the newborn, it showed that she was born in June 2006. Doctors immediately informed the Agripada police as the marriage was conducted in it's jurisdiction.
After the wedding in January, the girl started staying at the man's home where she was raped repeatedly. After she conceived, she was taken for regular check-ups at JJ Hospital where they always lied about her being an adult.
The police are on lookout for the cleric who solemnised the marriage. The husband has been remanded in police custody till December 24.
