With a sudden rise in COVID-19 cases and the fear of Omicron variant, the Mumbai Police have imposed Section 144 in the city to avoid large gatherings till January 7.
As per the new COVID-19 restrictions, prohibition has been placed on New Year's celebrations, parties in any open or closed spaces including restaurants, hotels, bars, clubs, pubs and resorts from December 30 to January 7.
Any person found breaching this order will be punished under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code in addition to the penal provision under the Epidemic Diseases Act and the National Disaster Management Act.
Mumbai on Wednesday reported a huge spike of 2,510 fresh new COVID-19 cases as the active case tally rose from 4,765 on Monday to 8,060 on Wednesday.
