Mumbai air quality slips into "very poor" category

On Tuesday, the air quality of Mumbai showed slight improvement as it slipped into the "very poor" category from "severe" category with the AQI being recorded at 354.

Following a dust storm on Sunday, the air quality of the city crossed the 500 mark on Monday resulting in poor visibility.

According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), the impact of dust storms in Mumbai and surrounding areas of Maharashtra has reduced drastically and will become negligible by Wednesday.

"AQI of Mumbai has improved significantly to 'Very Poor' and likely to improve further to 'lower end of Very Poor' or 'Poor' for the next two days," SAFAR said in an official statement.

An AQI of zero to 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'poor', and 401 to 500 'severe'.
