Weekend curfew imposed in Delhi, WFH for govt officials

In the wake of rising COVID-19 cases, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on Tuesday announced the imposing of weekend curfew in the national capital.

  • The weekend curfew will be in force from Friday 10 pm to Monday 5 am. Meanwhile government offices will shift to "Work From Home" mode.

"DDMA has decided to impose a curfew in Delhi on Saturdays and Sundays to curb COVID surge. All government officials except for those engaged in essential services will work from home. 50% workforce of private offices will work from home" Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia announced in a press conference.

In a bid to avoid crowding outside bus stands and metro stations, metro trains and DTC buses will once again run at full seating capacity, however, it would be mandatory for commuters to wear face masks.

  • Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that he has been tested positive for COVID-19.

"I have tested positive for Covid. Mild symptoms. Have isolated myself at home. Those who came in touch wid me in last few days, kindly isolate urself and get urself tested" Kejriwal tweeted.

Meanwhile Delhi reported 5,481 new cases in the last 24 hours, pushing the positivity rate to 8.37 per cent, the highest in seven months.
