Leaving a deep void in the world of music, India's Melody Queen - Lata Mangeshkar passed away on Sunday morning at 8.12am due to multi-organ failure in Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital.
Lata Mangeshkar's mortal which is kept for public viewing at Shivaji Park will be taken from the hospital to her residence Prabhu Kunj, Pedder Road, around 12.30pm.
Last rites will be performed at Shivaji Park crematorium today evening.
Two-day national mourning will be observed in the 92-year-old Legend's memory. The national flag will fly at half-mast for two days, as a mark of respect for the legendary singer.
Called the Nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar was admitted to the hospital in January with Covid-19 and pneumonia. On January 8, she was taken to intensive care unit. Even after recovering from Covid, the singer was put on ventilator support after her condition worsened on Saturday.
Politicians, celebrities and people from different walks of life have condoled her demise. Beginning her career as a singer in 1942, Lata Mangeshkar has been credited to have sung 25,000 songs in as many as 36 Indian languages including Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Kannada, Bengali and others over a period of seven decades. Her works will forever be cherished over upcoming decades.
