Renowned veteran actor-athlete Praveen Kumar Sobti who portrayed 'Bheem' in BR Chopra's 'Mahabharata' passed away on Monday night at the age of 74.
Prior to his acting career, Praveen was a hammer and discus throw athlete. A four-time Asian Games medallist (2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze), he also represented India in 1968 Mexico and 1972 Munich Olympics. He was also honoured with Arjuna award. He worked as the Deputy Commandant in the Border Security Force (BSF) as well.

The actor had worked in about 30 movies in his showbiz career and played many memorable roles including Mukhtaar Singh in Amitabh Bachchan's cult classic film 'Shahenshah'; before he moved to politics.
Losing the 2013 Delhi Legislative elections on an Aam Aadmi Party ticket, Kumar Sobti joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2014.
