UCL Roundup: Liverpool edge Inter test: Bayern held by Salzburg

Following Tuesday's action packed matchups, Wednesday saw four more teams battle it out to gain an upper hand in the RO16 ties.

Inter Milan vs Liverpool:

After a successful group stage which saw Liverpool win all 6 of the matches including wins over AC Milan, they returned back to Italy this time to face off Serie A Champions, Inter Milan.

This was Inter's first appearance in the Round of 16 since 2011/12 season. A first meeting between the pair since the 2007-08 season saw Liverpool secure a 2-0 win and put themselves into a commanding position.

The deadlock was broken in the 75th minute when Roberto Firmino managed to get a flick on from his header following a corner which let Samir Handanovic with no chance.

8 minutes later Mohammad Salah wrapped up the win after he tucked away a shot which took a slight deflection into the bottom right corner leaving the keeper stranded.

Inter have only once in their history have turned a 2-0 first leg deficit... however the opposition was Liverpool back in 1964-65 season which saw Inter lift the crown.

RB Salzburg vs FC Bayern Munchen:

Perhaps another David vs Goliath? Salzburg wrote their name in history as they became the first Austrian side to reach the knockout phase of the competition. Their reward? A round of 16 tie against Bayern.

Though Bayern did slipped up at the weekend as they lost 4-2 to Bochum, the Germans were undefeated in their previous 24 away ties in the competition.

However that run was in serious jeopardy till the 90th minute before Kingsley Coman eventually snatched a late equaliser as the game finished 1-1 as Salzburg almost recorded an upset.

The Austrians took the lead in the 21st minute when substitute Chukwubuike Adamu, on the pitch for eight minutes in place of the injured Noah Okafor, curled in a shot behind Sven Ulreich.

Bayern are still the favourites to go through but still anything is possible!
