Delhi Police has arrested a wanted criminal and inter-state land mafia from Nashik, Maharashtra who was carrying a reward of ₹50,000.
The accused, identified as Piyush Tiwari (42) alias Puneet Bhardwaj was also declared a proclaimed offender in 2018 in more than 30 cheating cases filed against him in different police stations of Noida, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.
The criminal has been accused of cheating approximately ₹1000 crore by duping innocent people in the pretext of alloting flats and plots in Delhi NCR.
He has been lodged in jail along with his wife, Shikha for her alleged involvement in the fraudulence.
Revealing the details, Deputy Commissioner of Police Sagar Singh Kalsi said on March 20, information was received through local intelligence and based on that a dedicated team of AATS, North District swung into action and finally held the accused who had been doing onion business in Nashik.
During interrogation, he disclosed that he had started his business as a builder in 2011 and created eight companies along with 15-20 shell companies till 2018. In 2016, an income tax raid was conducted at his house and about Rs 120 crore was seized, the official said.
In order to stand in the market, he started cheating people on the pretext of selling one flat to multiple buyers.
