CBI to probe Birbhum Violence case

In the midst of the row over Birbhum violence in which eight people including two children were charred to death, the Calcutta High Court on Friday ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe in the case.

The High Court sought a report that is to be submitted by April 7. The case was being investigated by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the West Bengal government.

In a shocking incident, as many as eight people were burnt to death on Tuesday in Birbhum after a mob allegedly houses on fire following the killing of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Bhadu Sheikh.

"Everyone demanded CBI inquiry. Everyone knows that Mamata Banerjee constituted SIT to suppress the case. Innocent people are murdered there but she is not accepting her government's failure," BJP leader Dilip Gosh said while welcoming the decision.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has also sought a detailed report from the West Bengal government over this incident.

Meanwhile BJP MLAs staged a protest in the Vidhan Sabha premises against WB CM Mamata Banerjee and demanded her statement over the incident.

So far 11 people have been arrested in the case.
