BMC files police complaint over fake I-T raid news on commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal


On Friday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) filed a police complaint against a person who tweeted that the civic body's commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal will be probed by the Income Tax (I-T) department over irregularities.

Advocate Sunil Sonawane has lodged in the Azad Maidan Police station against Sameet Thakkar for spreading this false information.

Sameet Thakkar tweeted,"Big Breaking, According to top sources of @Income Tax India is all set to inquire BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal in a standing committee chairman Yashwant Jadhav case. Notice in this regard has been served according to my sources."

The civic body quickly termed it as fake news. Commissioner Chahal said that he had not recieved any such notice and a police complaint has been filed against Thakkar.

"The following tweet is false. A complaint has been filed against this individual for spreading false news, with malicious intent. No notice has been served against the inquiry commissioner by the Income Tax Office of India," BMC said in their statement.
