Lakhimpur Kheri violence: SC to hear plea for cancellation of bail of prime accused Ashish Mishra on March 11

The Supreme Court on Friday set March 11 as the date to hear plea challenging the Allahabad High Court order of granting bail to Ashish Mishra, the prime accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident.

  • Ashish Mishra is the son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra.

Advocate Prashant Bhushan had sought an urgent hearing on the appeal against the Allahabad High court before a bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana.

He apprised the court that the others accused in the case are now moving bail plea on the ground of parity to the relief granted to Ashish Mishra.

Ashish Mishra was granted bail on February 10, 2022 by the Allahabad High court after being arrested on October 9, 2021.

  • On October 3, 2021, eight people including four protesting farmers died when a convoy of three SUVs including one belonging to Ajay Mishra Teni ran over them.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) had labelled this incident as a "pre-planned conspiracy".
