Maha CM Eknath Shinde slashes petrol, diesel prices by Rs 5, Rs 3 respectively

On Thursday, the new Maharashtra government announced a reduction in fuel prices slashing prices of petrol by Rs 5 per litre and diesel by Rs 3 per litre.

The announcement was made by CM Eknath Shinde after a Cabinet meeting which saw participation by Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis along with several other officials.

The newly sworn CM had earlier informed the government's plan to reduce VAT soon.

"A decision to reduce VAT on fuel will be taken soon to provide relief to the people of the state," tweeted Shinde on July 4.

Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis called the decision a great relief.

"Great relief to Maharashtrian & Marathi Manus! Happy to announce that new Government under CM Eknathrao Shinde has decided to reduce Petrol and Diesel prices by Rs5/litre and Rs3/litre respectively," tweeted Fadnavis.

This move comes just a day after prices of natural gas were hiked in Mumbai. Petrol will now cost Rs 106.35 per litre while diesel will be available at Rs 94.23 per litre in the city.
