Sanket Mahadev Sagar bags silver medal in weightlifting to open India's medal tally at Commonwealth Games 2022

On the second day of the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022, Sanket Mahadev Sagar opened India's medal tally after bagging silver medal in men's 55kg weightlifting with a total lift of 248kg (113+135).

An untimely injury during the event caused him to miss the gold as Malaysia's Bin Kasadin Mohammed finished on the podium with a total lift of 249kg (107+142). Sri Lanka's Dilanka Isuru Kumara Yodage bagged bronze with a total lift of 225kg (105+120).

"Exceptional effort by Sanket Sagar! His bagging the prestigious Silver is a great start for India at the Commonwealth Games. Congratulations to him and best wishes for all future endeavours," tweeted PM Modi.

At the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in December 2021 in Tashkent, Sagar won a gold medal with a left of 113 kg, which also helped him create a new national record in the snatch category.
