WBSSC Scam: CM Mamata Banerjee sacks Partha Chatterjee from Cabinet

On Thursday, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee expelled West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee from her cabinet over his involvement in the massive School Service Commission (SSC) recruitment scam in the state.

Chatterjee, the secretary-general of TMC, held the portfolios of commerce & industry, parliamentary affairs, information technology and electronics, and public enterprises & industrial reconstruction in the state cabinet.

For the time being, Mamata Banerjee will look after the portfolios held by Partha Chatterjee.

"I have removed Partha Chatterjee as a minister. My party takes strict action. There are many plannings behind it but I don't want to go into details," Mamata said.

The decision to Chatterjee's expulsion comes a day after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) recovered nearly Rs 50 crore in cash and jewellery including ED's previous raid on 22 July, from the apartments linked to Chatterjee's close associate Arpita Mukherjee.

Besides cash and jewellery, ED officials have also recovered land-related documents, gold bars, silver coins, property deeds and CDs from her flat.

Partha Chatterjee & Arpita Mukherjee were arrested by the ED on 23 July 2022 and are in their custody.
