On Tuesday, the Kolkata Police detained Leader of Opposition (LoP) in West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari and several other leaders ahead of the Bhartiya Janta Party's (BJP) protest march to state secretariat "Nabanna".

  • Before the detention, Adhikari said CM Mamata Banerjee had turned the state of Bengal into North Korea by not having the support of the people.

"Chief Minister Mamata does not have the support of her people and so she is enforcing dictatorship, similar to North Korea in Bengal. Police will have to pay for what it is doing since Monday. BJP is coming," Adhikari was quoted by ANI.

Earlier today, a clash broke out between the BJP workers and the police outside the Raniganj railway station. Several workers were taken into preventive custody.

Visuals of police lathicharge, usage of water cannons and tear shell gas at the protestors whereas ablazing of police vehicle by protestors have also emerged.
