Deadly cloudburst ravages Himachal Pradesh killing 7

Two houses and one cowshed were also washed away.

Officials reported that a cloudburst in the Jadon village of Himachal Pradesh's Solan district has resulted in the tragic deaths of at least seven individuals, with three others still missing. Rescue operations are currently underway to locate the missing individuals.

Two landslides in Shimla city have raised concerns of around 15 to 20 individuals being buried.

The cloudburst caused the destruction of two houses and a cowshed. Over a span of approximately 55 hours, incessant rainfall wreaked havoc in various districts, including Mandi, Sirmaur, Shimla, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, and Solan. The severe weather conditions led to flooding, landslides, and falling trees, resulting in significant damage to numerous houses and vehicles. Many households are currently facing challenges with power and water supply.

The meteorological department has issued a heavy rainfall warning for the next three to four hours. They specifically highlighted the catchment areas of the Beas, Pong Dam, Ranjit Sagar, and Sutlej rivers, cautioning about the potential occurrence of cloudbursts. Flood warnings have been issued for nine districts, effective until Tuesday.

Himachal Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu condoled the deaths.

We have directed the authorities to ensure all possible assistance and support to the affected families during this trying period,” he said in a Twitter post.

In response to the situation, CM Sukhu conducted a virtual meeting with district commissioners. As a result, he declared a holiday for schools, colleges, industrial training institutes, engineering, polytechnic, and pharmacy colleges on Monday. Postgraduate and BEd examinations have also been canceled.
