Violence & protest ignites at Behala post child's accidental death

Following a tragic road accident on Friday in Behala Chowrasta Area which resulted in the death of a seven-year-old child (Swarnil Sarkar), local residents staged major protest to express their anger and frustration.

The incident occurred around 6:30 am, as per eyewitness accounts, when a speeding lorry loaded with sand, hit Sarkar, a student from Barisha High School, and his father. Tragically, the boy lost his life on the spot, while his father's condition is reported to be critical.

The child's father also suffered serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at SSKM Hospital. The truck driver was later held from Santragachi and the vehicle was impounded.

During the protest, some protesters set vehicles on fire. The main road in Behala was barricaded by locals who also resorted to pelting stones at the police. To regain control of the situation, the police employed baton charges, and tear gas shells were fired in order to disperse the mob.
