'Golden voice of Radio' Ameen Sayani passes away at 91

On the late night of 20 Feb 2024, the golden voice of radio - Ameen Sayani passed away due to heart attack at the age of 91.

The veteran radio presenter's brother Sagar Sayani confirmed the news to Su-Niti News. Ameen Sayani's son Rajil, said that despite being rushed to HN Reliance Hospital in Mumbai, he could not be saved.

Born on 21 December 1932 in Mumbai, became a beloved household name, captivating generations with his melodious voice and captivating style. His illustrious career started as an English-language broadcaster and later transitioned to Hindi after India gained independence

Ameen Sayani gained immense popularity through his radio program 'Geetmala,' a key player in popularising radio listening in India. Hosted by Sayani, Geetmala became a national phenomenon, featuring Hindi film music and captivating listeners for decades.

His distinctive address to listeners as "Behno aur Bhaiyo" (sisters and brothers) became iconic. With a career spanning over six decades, Sayani produced and presented 54,000 radio programs, along with 19,000 voice-overs for advertisements and jingles. Beyond radio, he ventured into acting, taking on small roles in various films, often portraying an announcer.
