With the conclusion of the UEFA Champions League just a week ago, it was time to start the new season of football. Though France's Ligue 1 had already started the campaign, other top European Leagues are still having a break after the league season finished just a month ago.
It was time for the traditional Curtain Raiser of English Football though some may say it's just a pre-season friendly, The FA Community Shield has its own virtues.
The Winners of the Premier League face off against the Winners of FA Cup in this game. If the Same Team won the League and the Cup, then the team finished second in the league face off the winners in the Shield.
This was the fourth meeting between Liverpool and Arsenal in the Shield with Liverpool winning on 2 of the previous three occasion. This team has met just 45 days ago at the Emirates, when Arsenal stunned Liverpool to a 2-1, ending Liverpool's pursuit of a 100 points.
Arsenal's Captain Pierre Emerick Aubameyang had a great Wembley feat with braces against Former Champions Manchester City in the Semi Finals and Chelsea in the Final. So it had to him who broke the deadlock in the 12th minute after he cutter in from the left and placed a shot in the bottom right corner to give Arsenal the lead.
Takumi Minamino signed from Salzburg in January hadn't made a great impact for Liverpool. Therefore he enjoyed the moment in the match as his first goal for Liverpool came in the 73rd minute to level the game for Liverpool. It finished 1-1 as Arsenal showed more intensity than Liverpool to win the game.
As last year, the Community Shield would be decided by penalty shootout. Liverpool lost the Shield last year to Manchester City in the shootout as Wijnaldum had missed the penalty. This year he was substituted by youngster Rhian Brewster in the last minute.
Things didn't work out for Klopp as Brewster was the only one who missed the penalty as Arsenal won the shootout 5-4 on penalties with the last penalty been tucked by offcourse Pierre Emerick Aubameyang. This was Arsenal's 16th Community Shield win.
