Veteran actor Ramakant Dayama passes away at 69

Veteran actor Ramakant Dayama passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 in Mumbai at the age of 69, following a prolonged illness. The news was confirmed by actress and close friend Shubhangi Latkar, who shared an emotional tribute on social media alongside a video of the late actor singing, dancing, and enjoying time with friends at a gathering.

Dayama was a versatile performer whose career spanned films, television, theatre, and digital platforms over several decades. He was widely recognised for his role in Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Chak De! India and went on to appear in numerous acclaimed productions including Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story, Dhanak, Ram Setu, Farzi, Crew, Mumbai Saga, Brothers, The Trial, and The Chargesheet. His most recent work was the award-winning short film Thursday Special, presented by filmmakers Shoojit Sircar and Vikramaditya Motwane.

Latkar paid heartfelt tribute to her friend, writing that they had been planning to collaborate on a Hindi play and a poetry stage presentation. "We had so many unfinished plans. When I requested him, he smiled and said, 'Let me get well soon,'" she recalled. The Cine and TV Artistes' Association (CINTAA) also issued a condolence statement, honouring Dayama as a respected former Executive Committee Member whose dedication and warmth touched countless lives within the industry.

He is survived by his daughter Yashaswini Dayama, an actress and digital creator known for her performances in Dear Zindagi and the web series Adulting.
