The first of the 4 test is a Day/Night test match which will be played by a pink ball. Indian Captain Virat Kohli will leave the squad and return home to India after the conclusion of the first test for private reasons.
It was Kohli who won the toss and elected to bat first on a green surface. The suprise inclusion of Prithivi Shaw as opener was questioned by fans and experts.
Shaw was not able to answer back those critics and was bowled at the second ball of the game.Virat Kohli came in at number 3. Soon India lost the other opener Mayank Agarwal.
Then India had a 68 run Partnership for the third wicket between Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara. A slow and steady innings from the duo helpled India calm some early nerves.
Nathan Lyon got the better of Pujara. Though the on field umpire had originally judged him not out, the review said there was a soft nick of the bat of Pujara and was caught out and the decision was reversed. Pujara scored 42 off 160 balls.
Virat Kohli was then joined by Ajinkya Rahane. India went into the third session at the score of 108/3 in 55 overs. Some good strokes from the bat by both in the 3rd session kept the scoreboard moving.
Just as it was looking good in the middle for India, a bad call from Rahane for a single left Kohli in no mans land as he was runned out at the score of 74. Kohli didnt show too much emotions at that dismissal but surely would have liked to carry on. The score was 188/4 after Kohli's departure.
Soon Rahane was dismissed by Mitchell Starc by an LBW. Rahane knew he was out but still decided to take the review after consulting his partner Vihari. Three Reds were shown by the DRS and Rahane's inning was over at the score of 196/5 with him scoring 42 off 92 balls.
India though were able to stabilize the innings and ended the day with a score of 233/6 in 89 overs with Wriddhiman Saha and Ravichandran Ashwin at the crease. How much will India be able to add to their scoreboard on Day 2? We will find out tomorrow.
