Supreme Court Postpones Hearing On Farm Reform Laws; Kejriwal Tears Copies At Vidhan Sabha

The Supreme Court Of India on Thursday asked the Centre to consider putting the farm reform laws on hold and postponed the hearing. The court once again suggested forming a committee to resolve the deadlock.

Latest Update: Today, inside Delhi's Vidhan Sabha, Ministers and MLAs of Aam Aadmi Party(Aap) along with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tore the copies of the three farm laws during the session, threw at the Speaker and created a havoc there.

“What was the hurry to get Farm Laws passed in Parliament during pandemic? It has happened for the 1st time that three laws were passed without voting in Rajya Sabha...I hereby tear 3 Farm laws in this assembly and appeal Centre not to become worse than Britisher,” the Delhi chief minister said, according to news agency ANI.

Kejriwal also said that the Delhi Assembly today rejected all thee farm laws and has appealed Central government that it should take back these black laws. "More than 20 farmers have died during 20 days of protest. On average, one farmer is getting martyred daily in this movement," Kejriwal added.

On Wednesday, Supreme Court had said the Centre’s negotiations with the farmers “have not worked” and also talked about forming a panel with the farmer groups, government officials and other stakeholders to resolve the deadlock. However, farmer groups were not happy with the suggestion.

A final verdict on the pleas against the farmer protest is expected today. Supreme Court also said the farmers’ agitation may soon become a national issue unless resolved now. Meanwhile, a Sikh preacher shot himself at the Singhu border protest, leaving behind a suicide note in which he said he has killed himself in solidarity with the ongoing farmers’ protest.
