Police said that "The Dirty Picture's" critically acclaimed Bengali actress Arya Banerjee was found dead at her South Kolkata residence on Friday.
The police broke open the door of her third-floor apartment and found that the body of the 33-year-old actress was lying in the bedroom.
Police said that Arya Banerjee was her screen name; her real name was Devdutta Banerjee and she was late sitar maestro Nikhil Bandyopadhyay's daughter. Arya had acted in LSD: Love Sex Aur Dhoka (2010) and other films besides The Dirty Picture (2011).
She had also done some modelling jobs in Mumbai.
According to police, the body was sent for post mortem examination and a forensic team had collected samples from her room.
Forensic experts found she was bleeding from her nose and had vomited.
According to the police, Banerjee lived alone in her house with a dog. Her sister lives in Singapore. Many empty liquor bottles were found in the room.
“Like every day her maid had come to work and when she didn’t get any response, she alerted her neighbours and the police were informed. The house was locked from inside. Investigation is on,” said a senior police officer.
