In a sweeping jerk to Trinamool Congress party, before the West Bengal Assembly Elections, Suvendu Adhikari has also resigned from the MLA’s post. He first quit from the Cabinet Ministry and then the MLA’s post.
Adhikari had even stepped down as Minister of Transport, Irrigation and Waterways on the 27th of November.
Sources say that Suvendu Adhikari may join the Bhartiya Janata Party during Union Minister Amit Shah's visit to the state later this week.
Reacting to this rumour, BJP’s Mukul Roy welcomed it saying that ‘Will welcome him if he joins BJP. TMC cadre feeling suffocated’. Adhikari’s resignation decision, ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit, comes in a surprise for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’.
The Trinamool has been firefighting to retain Mr Adhikari, who wields influence over the local party leaders in Malda, Murshidabad, Purulia, Bankura and West Midnapore, where he was the party in-charge. His split from the party is expected to hit Trinamool in more than 50 seats in the assembly elections slated for next year.
