Liverpool Beat Spurs in Midweek Action

Roberto Firmino

With the Christmas festive period fast approaching, the schedule for football has got tighter. This week there was midweek action on Tuesday and Wednesday as the Marquee Fixture in the Premier League coming from Anfield where Champions Liverpool took on League Leaders Spurs in a top of the table clash.

Recent History didn't read too good for the visitors. Spurs were winless against Liverpool in the last 6 games losing 5 and drawing once. One defeat also included the 2018-19 UCL Final. Spurs last won at Anfield in 2011, so it was going to be a tough task for them considering Liverpool were unbeaten at Home in the Premier League for more than 67 matches.

In the highly Anticipated fixture it was Liverpool who took the lead through a deflected shot from Mohammed Salah which looped over Lloris in the 26th minute.

Tottenham this season had been on fire when it came to counter attacking. Once again it proved effective for Spurs as Son Heung-Min was played through by Le Celso and the South Korean made no mistake in his finish to make it 1-1 in the 33rd minute.

Despite what the stats showed,it was Spurs who had the most big chances to take the lead but were unable to beat Allison for a second time. The headline maker though was the Brazilian Roberto Firmino. Being critized whole season for not been able to score goals, the Brazilian thumped in a header in the 90th minute to win the game for Liverpool and sink Tottenham hearts. This Result means that Liverpool are now on 1st position with 28 points,3 points ahead of Spurs with 25points with Southampton and Leicester City with 23 points each to complete an unfamiliar top 4.
