On Thursday, Comedian Kapil Sharma approached the Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) of Mumbai Crime Branch to file an FIR against car designer Dilip Chhabria for allegedly taking Rs 5.70 Crore from Sharma and not delivering his vanity van.
Milind Bharambhe, Joint Commissioner of Police said "We are in the process of registering of a First Information Report (FIR) against Chhabria for cheating Sharma. We will verify the facts and investigate the case."
CIU had arrested Chhabria on December 28,2020 after police had found that he and his firm, Dilip Chhabria (DC) Designs Private Limited had alleged availed loans from some non banking financial companies (NBFC) by posing as customers looking to buy DC sports cars. He was remanded in Custody till Thursday and was produced in the court again and has been granted judical Custody for 14 days.
In his statement, Kapil Sharma said that he had approached Chhabria to design a vanity van for him in between 2017. He had paid him Rs 5.30Crore for the van in between May 2017 and 2018. When he found out there was no progress in his order he approached Chhabria.
Later Chhabria demanded another Rs 40 lakh for goods and services tax (GST) and Sharma paid the amount in July 2018. Even after that there was no progression and Sharma ordered Chhabria to cancel his order and return him the money. He would then demand another Rs 60 lakh for the delivery. Following this Sharma approached the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) in 2019 who then froze Chhabria's account.
Chhabria would then sent a Rs 12 lakh parking bill for the car and it's spare parts that were kept in factory premises.
