Liverpool lose at Anfield again

It has been a quite some troubling weeks for Liverpool. After a strange run of results in December where they struggled against bottom half teams, they lost at Anfield for the first time in nearly 4 years in January against Burnley.

Then they got back in form recording back to back 3-1 away wins at Spurs and West Ham. Last night they were stunned again as they lost back to back games at homes when they slipped to a 1-0 defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion.

After having gone 68 games unbeaten at home in the Premier League, the Reds have now suffered 2 straight defeats at home. The lack of Home Ground is one of the key figures as the 55,000 fans always act as a 12th man and make the difference.

With Manchester United slaughtering Southampton 9-0, 24 hours earlier and Manchester City winning comfortable 2-0 against Burnley, Liverpool needed to close out the gap and avoid further slips. In a recent interview their manager Jurgen Klopp admitted that star centre back Virgil Van Dijk may not play again this season due to the ACL injury he suffered against Everton.

In the first half they failed to register a single shot on target. The first time that has happened in a long while for the Reds. Brighton who had already stunned Tottenham Hotspurs on Sunday were surely not ready for another big prize.

The Highlight of the game came in the 56th minute when Midfielder Steven Alzate knocking the ball in from close range after the ball was played in by Daniel Burn.

This was Brighton's first win against Liverpool since 1982.It was a massive Result at both ends of the table as Brighton moved up to 15th spot with 24 points,10 ahead of the drop zone. The Seagulls and their faithful will remember this one for long time thats for sure.

Meanwhile Liverpool have now failed to score a goal at home for 3 consecutive games now with the last such run coming in 1984. Due to Leicester's win earlier, Liverpool are now on 4th with 40 points,7 behind Leaders Manchester City, who have a game in hand.

Coincidentally their next game is against Manchester City at Anfield. A win for City in that game will surely make it difficult for Liverpool to bounce back. The Cityzens themselves will be looking to end their Anfield curse with their last win coming in 2003.
