"India to take up racism issues with UK when required":S Jaishankar

During the Rajya Sabha session today, External Affairs ministers S Jaishankar reassured that India will fight against any sort of discrimination and will take up the matters of Racism against Indian students in the UK when required.

Responding to a question asked Jaishankar replied "We will raise it when required and we will always champion the fight against Racism and other forms of intolerance."

Referring India as the land of Mahatama Gandhi whom himself was a target of racism and fought hard against that matter during the time of struggle for Independence, Jaishankar added "As land of Mahatama Gandhi, we can never ever turn our eyes away from racism wherever it is. Particularly so when it is in a country where we have such a large diaspora. As a friend of the UK, we also have concerns about it's reputational impact."

"We have strong ties with the UK, we will take up such matters with great candour when required" continued Jaishankar as he once again reassured that the MEA will look at this developments very very closely.

This question was sparked when an Parliament member resided the case of an Indian Student in UK's Oxford University. The student had won the presidential election for the Oxford University Student Union but later had to resign her post after some disturbing messages and comments were posted on her Social Media.
