Renowned playwright, writer, director and producer Sagar Sarhadi (aged 88) has passed away due to age-related illness. Sarhadi died late on Sunday evening at his residence in Sion, Mumbai.
Sarhadi’s funeral will happen today at a crematorium in Sion. Besides Talwar, Sarhadi is survived by three nephews and three nieces.
Born as Ganga Sagar Talwar near Abottabad city (now Pakistan), Sarhadi was already a renowned Urdu writer and playwright before he debuted in Bollywood in 1976 with Yash Chopra’s romance Kabhi Kabhi, of which he penned the screenplay and dialogues. The Amitabh Bachchan-Rakhee film marked Sarhadi’s long-standing, glorious collaboration with late Yash Chopra.
He went on to write screenplay for Noorie (1979) and Silsila (1981), and dialogues for Sridevi-Rishi Kapoor 1989 hit Chandni. He turned director with 1982 film Bazaar, starring Naseeruddin Shah and Smita Patil. Anubhav starring Sanjeev Kumar and Tanuja and directed by Basu Bhattacharya. Sarhadi’s work in Bollywood spanned several decades as he wrote even in the ’90s for Shah Rukh Khan’s big screen debut Deewana (1992) and later for Hrithik Roshan’s acting debut Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai (2000).
