The United Forum of Bank Union (UFBU) which as an umbrella body of nine banks unions had called for a two day nationwide strike on March 15 and March 16 against the privatisation of public sectors and retrograde banking reforms.
According to our sources around 9-10 lakh bank employee and personnel are said to be have participated in the strike today which will continue tomorrow as well.
Banking services such as deposits and withdrawal at branches, loan approvals and check clearances are affected due to this Strike. However ATMs are functions and money can be withdrawn.
Banks were already closed on March 13 due to Second Saturday and on March 14 due to Sunday and the two strike makes it a four day break in regular banking operations. This strike has said to have been taken after the announcement of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's Budget scheme where she announced the privatisation of two public sectors.
