All English European Final to take place as Chelsea knock out Real Madrid

After Manchester City booked their place in the Champions League Final, fellow English rivals Chelsea knocked out Real Madrid by winning 2-0 on the night and 3-1 on aggregate to make it an All English European Final.

Chelsea came into the match with an away goal. They could have had more in the first leg but missed several good chances in the first half to put the game beyond bed.

In the second leg, goals from Timo Werner in the first half and a late second half strike from Mason Mount gave Chelsea a 2-0 win as the progressed through their third final, first since their triumph against Bayern Munich in Munich in 2012.

Chelsea started off strong and took the lead in the 28th minute when Timo Werner headed in from two yards out after Kai Havetz's effort had strucked the crossbar.

They had plenty of chances in the second half to kill the game but were kept out time and time again by their former goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

Havetz rattled the crossbar in the 47th minute, Thiago Silva headed it over the bar in the 51st minut before Havetz missed a one-on-one chance in the 59th minute. Ngolo Kante also missed from close range. However they were spared their blushes as Mount converted in the 85th minute.

For the third time in UCL History, an All English final will take place (Manchester United vs Chelsea 2008,Tottenham Hotspurs vs Liverpool 2019). Coincidentally, these two meet this Saturday as Manchester City host Chelsea. A win for the Citizens would gurantee them a third Premier League in four years.

The final will be played at the Ataturk Stadium in Istanbul on May 29. The Stadium's last final turned out to be a classic encounter as Liverpool overcome a 3-0 half time deficient against AC Milan to drew 3-3 and win on penalties.
