On Friday, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar ruled out the imposition of a complete lockdown in Pune and hinted out imposing more strict regulations to control the violation of COVID norms.
Pawar was in the district to attend a chair meeting, reviewing the current situation. The Bombay High Court had suggested the Maharashtra Government to impose a complete lockdown in Pune in the view of rising cases. The district has been reporting more than 10,000 cases daily with 140-150 deaths.
- However Pawar refused this suggestion. "While some elected representatives have raised the possibility of a total lockdown, the current restrictions are sufficient. We may tighten curbs to deter people who are moving out without any valid reason" said Pawar.
As for the country, India reported 4,01,078 new cases with 4,187 fatalities. Maharashtra reported 54,022 new cases and 898 deaths. Pune and Nagpur continue to the worst affected cities of Maharashtra with more active caseload than Mumbai.
