In the view of rising COVID-19 cases, the Tamil Nadu government has imposed a complete lockdown for two weeks across the state from May 10 to May 24.
While announcing the lockdown, the government described the situation and the sudden decision as "unavoidable circumstances". This is the first major decisions taken by new CM MK Stalin after taking the oath on Friday.
During the lockdown essential stores such as vegetables, grocery, meat and fish fill be allowed to operate till 12 noon only. All other shops will remain closed during the meantime.
State owned liquor shops,tasmac will also remain closed during the 14 day period. Restaurants will be allowed to open only for takeaways.
Movement of people along the state is also restricted apart from emergency situations. This announcement comes as the state recorded it's biggest single day spike with 26,465 new cases and 197 deaths.
